CAIRO JIM AND THE ASTRAGALS OF ANGKOR
...is published TODAY.

"With some 17 books behind him, Geoffrey McSkimming has once again painstakingly relayed the adventures of Cairo Jim and his unusual companions. Told in old-world "Boys Own" adventure style, Cairo Jim and the Astragals of Angkor takes readers on a fantastic journey across the globe to defeat the dastardly Captain Neptune Flannelbottom Bone (and) to stop Bone from entering the Realm of Eternal Power. Like good adventure tales, Astragals of Angkor doesn't take itself too seriously...pre-teens will love the sense of adventure and the humour. This is the final chapter* in McSkimming's 17 year quest to relate these tales, leaving some to question: Is this really the end for Cairo Jim?" --Australian Bookseller and Publisher

YAY and NAY...
*sigh* End of an era!
This makes me really sad, but also determined to go out and buy the missing parts of my collection. And read them all again!!!
(after exams)
Well done! I'm sure it will do brilliantly!
Don't you fret, Nat, you loyal and discerning reader...there will always be strange stories abounding! Thanks for your sentiments.
G
HURRAH! :D And It's so perfectly timed too as, as of next friday, I will have all the time in the world to read it! *dances*
BTW.. you were in my dream last night.. though it wasn't you exactly. You had a lot more hair in my dream. hehe. Anyway, I dreamt about being at the archaeology conference and you were there giving a paper on the amazing discovery of Martenarten all those years ago, and then we all went out and ate pie. It was a pretty awesome dream. Almost as good as the one I had the other night about a parallel magical world for whom I worked as a spy, and snuck back into the 'real' world (in my head named 'Kevin') and smuggled anthropological evidence back into magical world. I woke up and went "I'm totally going to write a book about that!!" :D
congrats on finally getting it published! you should take a well deserved holiday now. :P
Oh, dear, I'm haunting people's dreams again. Apologies, Meg. At least you didn't die and go to Kevin.
Thanks for the congrats, you fledgling archaeologist. Dance on, and I hope you will not find the ending too unexpected...
G
no need to apologise, dear sir. Twas a rather corking dream. :)
Congratulations on producing yet another fine book! I can't wait to read Astragals, and I certainly hope it's not the "final chapter".
Why, thank you, my friend. I hope that, for you, it is as fine as the web spun by the most elegant Peruvian cloudforest spider.

Dear G, what a wonderful day yesterday was. The publication date of CJ's 18th adventure, and what a treat the book is. I insist everyone go out and buy themselves a copy straight away or they shall feel very left out. And a candle burns bright in my heart for the return of Mr Jim some time soon... MonkeyQGirl
You are the agent of wonders
Thx u

I thought it was terrible... that it was only as long as it was :P
At the risk of sounding like a great big loser I'm going to say that as I was reading I discovered that I was grinning ear to ear and my eyes were leaking. Those Jim/Joss scenes were so divinely perfect in every way. Thank you so much!
Do you have any idea how long it took me to find your face on the cover. About 12 hours. Shocking, I know. My sister and dad had to point it out in the end.

Thanks for the lovely feedback, Em...no, you are never a great big loser if you respond like that to my woids! I value your reactions and I am so pleased you are so pleased with what's happened between Jim and Joss.
Sometimes it takes me a lot longer than that to find my face in the mirror...

I've just finished Astragals and it's fantastic. I cried and I am still crying. But I laughed and I will laugh always when I remember all of the exploits of jim doris and brenda and the beautiful joss and the dastardly Bone and dessie.
Thank you thank you than you, Geoffrey
You are wonderful.

Geoffrey,
Well done on the latest. But is it true - will there be no more? Say it isn't so!
James Roy
Ah, Mr Roy, there is maybe more than one clue somewhere in the story...
G
AAAHHH!! It was so good! But so sad! So close! Yet so far! Aarrghh, the mixture of divine happiness and incredible loss is too painful! Surely it is not the end! I MUST have faith in Jim!! What a truly fantastic end... I was shocked, especially since Jim and Joss were so close! He'd BETTER come back. I also liked the narration change of the prelude and epilogue being from your (the writer's) perspective. It drew my attention and gave the stories a circular feel to them, like finally the story of you finding out about Cairo Jim from the pictures had a purpose, and rounded the series off very well - Congratulations!
Thankyou for the many many years of enjoyment that you have given me. the Cairo Jim Chronicles will always hold a special place on my bookshelf and in my heart. Thankyou!!
Kers,
You have gleaned the muchness of what I have tried to convey. Thank you indeed.
You won't be disappointed in the years to come.

hi Geoffrey

I was the one who sent the letter on the first week of november with the story "that big black alley"?
I recived your reply on november the 8th and I was in a dazed shocK when I recived it.
PLEASE tell me did you really write that letter beacause a friend told me that his teacher wrote a letter to you and you really didn't awnswer her Questions.
any way I have got to go, love Ranjita Vadakattu.
Hi Ranjita
Yes, I wrote that letter. No one else would have such haphazard handwriting. Glad you received it.

(Maybe I couldn't understand your friend's teacher's questions, I can't remember...)

Dear Mr McSkimming, I just wanted to say that the Cairo Jim series holds a special place in my heart...never to be eclipsed, and never to be forgotten. I have spent so many hours over the years reading your books, pondering the exploits of Jim, Doris, Brenda, Jocelyn... I cried, laughed, jumped around the room for joy, and cried again while reading Astragals of Angkor. After waiting YEARS for Jim and Jocelyn to realise their "good friend"-shipness, I was as distraught as Doris would be without her Shakespeare upon finishing Astragals. A part of me wants to believe that there will be a 19th swoggling tale, but there is another part that feels the rest of the Cairo Jim story will be up to the imaginations of the devoted readers. Even so, I will forever keep my eyes peeled for a glimpse of an auburn curl, pith helmet, or gaudy blue-and-gold feather in bookstores. Thank you for the journey, Mr McSkimming.
